In Class 1 we try our best at all times. Sometimes we find things hard but we help each other to succeed.
Here are some photos of us learning together.
In Class 1 we appreciate the support parents and families give to their children to maximise learning and achievement. Talking to your child about their day at school and valuing their successes is so important. 10 minutes quality time each day is all that it takes.
You can also help your child by encouraging them to complete homework tasks, listen to them read and practice their envelope of words. Reception children also have a Letters and Sounds book which is linked to our phonics teaching. Helping your child practice the sounds and recognise the letters will help them with their reading and spelling. If you have any questions or require advice please speak to Miss Clark.
This term we are enjoying a wide range of stories written by one author - Julia Donaldson. Our focus text is called 'Sharing a Shell' which we have thoroughly enjoyed reading. We have also read 'The Smartest Giant in Town', 'The Gruffalo', 'The Gruffalo's Child', 'Room on the Broom', 'The Scarecrows Wedding', 'Stick Man' and 'Zog'.
This term we are taking part in a Summer Reading Challenge. This is to inspire an even greater love of reading, improve our comprehension skills and involve our families by reading at home. We have made a collection of Traditional/Fairy stories and our challenge is to read 6 books by the end of term in July. Each child has a reading passport in which they collect stickers to help them climb up a beanstalk. Each time we read one of the stories we talk to Miss Clark about the story and complete a simple book review. We can then put a sticker into our reading passport. When we have read 6 books and collected 6 stickers we have completed the challenge. We then receive a special certificate and a little prize!
We learnt to play 'Duck, Duck, Goose', 'Hide and Seek', 'Tag' and 'Follow my Leader'.
We have 9 Year 1 and 10 Reception children in our class. Every afternoon 3 Year 2 children join us for topic work. In the Spring term our topic was 'Materials'. We investigated the properties of different materials and used particular materials for different purposes.
We also love working outdoors. Here are some photos of us working together to create a house and a pipe river. We used lots of different materials and even decorated parts of our construction. We had so much fun, did lots of talking and improved our team building skills!
