Children enjoyed a Sci-fi filled day at the Beacon in Whitehaven.
The day started with students embarking on science lead activities which included making slime and firing rockets! This enhanced pupils' scientific knowledge of chemical properties and furthered their understanding of chemical experiments.
Pupils then worked their way around the exhibit exploring all the wonderful and amazing alien costumes and Sci-fi memorabilia, children even got to meet some rather famous Star Wars characters! This was a chance for students to develop their love of space stories as well as to develop their ability to write their own space story as children took inspiration from their surroundings. Year 2 and 3 in particular focused on a specific character within the museum and when back at school wrote a story about that characters space adventure.
The fun didn't stop there! Children then explored the rest of the museum with a big focus on the Sellafield floor. Here students worked with Miss Huddart as she showed pupils the day in the life of a Sellafield worker. This was very entertaining as children had to wear appopriate footwear and had to learn a unique way of simply getting to work!
Pupils then worked in teams building towers and structures. As you can see this was a lot of fun :)
The trip was a fun day enjoyed by both staff and students and we would certainly recommend a trip to the Beacon Museum for school holidays and weekends.
