Sports 2020-21

Our Summer of sport 2021

As we come to the end of a very unique school year, it is time to celebrate all of our achievements. We have a lot to reflect back on having enjoyed a variety of fun activities throughout the school.

Sadly, inter school competition wasn’t possible, for obvious reasons, and our pupils, especially our years 5 and 6 students, missed these experiences terribly. However, we did enjoy a lot of intra school events within our bubbles.

X-Country, Pitch and Putt golf tournament, and lots of extra PE and active sessions throughout the hub provision. We also included an extra hour of PE to our timetable when school fully opened to all pupils. Our older pupils enjoyed a week of Bikeability training too.

As restrictions lifted a little, we welcomed visits from a professional dancer and a Kidditch (Harry Potter Game,) coach. Students from reception up to year six thoroughly embraced their sessions, learning new skills and having a lot of fun. It was a real treat for all, the staff included.

Each bubble celebrated their own sports day. Although these events were fun, it wasn’t quite the same without our families in school. I know the competitive parents amongst us will be sad they missed out on their annual parent’s races! Soon be next year!

We also enjoyed taking part in the Race for Life event. It was great to walk around our village while raising lots of money for a very worthy cause, that sadly, has touched so many families. Most of all, we were thrilled to have such amazing support from residents in their gardens clapping and encouraging us as we walked by.

A big congratulations to all of our students who have completed the 100 mile challenge throughout this school year. Miles walked, cycled or scooted within school time or out of school have been counted. Many students have excelled with this challenge and they should be very proud of their achievements.

Lastly the children and staff were delighted to visit Forest school this term. It was wonderful to take the children out of the area for a different learning experience. All pupils thoroughly enjoyed their visits and we look forward to more adventures there in the coming year.

Pentathlon November 2020

During this half term key stage 2 have taken part in a pentathlon event that has been rolled out across the county. Every child had a chance to compete in Standing long jump, shuttle runs, vertical jump, chest push and speed bounce. A great effort from all pupils was evident throughout all events.

We were very happy to have a helping hand from Mrs Lister in class 3, ensuring this event ran smoothly.

The results were sent to our school games organiser, we are eagerly awaiting our results.

X-Country Event Autumn Term 2020

During autumn term, our school have been running a X-country course set out by west Lakes Academy. Several school in the area took part, with pupils competing against themselves, trying to get personal bests.

Each age group were given a distance to run, which were marked out within our bubbles. Pupils had as many attempts as they wanted. Some pupils had up to seven attempts! Remarkable.

Lots of children achieved personal bests over the month in which we ran this event.

Lots of encouragement from friends helped tired pupils complete the distance.

T-shirts were awarded to those who had run numerous times. Certificates were given to all contenders.

KS2 Social distancing games and skills September 2020

During P.E this term we have focused on games that follow the social distancing rules, as well as skills for hockey and football.

We have enjoyed getting back together and having fun as a group. Every child has been hot, sweaty, happy and safe as we have been outside for our lessons.
