Roadmap to healthy habits

What a week it has been! The changes on Monday to the way which we can behave socially and the activities we can now enjoy, have really helped us to feel a sense of normalcy and optimism.

I am sure these changes will also provide time for reflection and it will take months, possibly even years to uncover what the pandemic has meant for us all, as a country, community and as individuals.

During this period of uncertainty, we have all made changes to the way we live our lives, developing new habits and routines. In some cases, these new habits have been positive and healthy, but for many, our pandemic lifestyles were less healthy than we would have liked. Now we are on the road to recovery, it is perhaps a good idea to start to make some small lifestyle changes which will help improve health and wellbeing for the long term.

Small changes to our lifestyle now can become healthy habits for the future. Why not start with making time for a daily walk or dropping one sweet treat from your daily diet? You could take up a new sport or join a club in the locality now that these are available.

If you have developed unhealthy habits which are having a negative impact at home, there are many local groups which can help with this. One key support is the local family Action Team (tel:0194664600) which is based in Whitehaven. They can help with issues related to alcohol use, healthy eating and debt for example.

If you are concerned and want advice regarding an aspect of your child or your own health you could also make an appointment for a video consultation with the local nursing service. These appointments usually take place on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and can be access via the CHOC system ( tel: 0300 3034365). There are also fact sheets which cover a range of topics regarding keeping your child healthy which can be downloaded using the address below;

Please remember we are here to help, as a team, we can work together to ensure the best for your family now and in the future.

Enjoy your weekend,

Mrs Figes
