Weekly Message from the Headteacher

Happy Friday Everyone!  You are doing a Brilliant job - Thank you!

You have had a lot of communication in these past two weeks with what we would like you to do, what we expect and how we are doing things differently for now. So, I think it is time to share something a little more positive with you. It’s time to give yourselves a pat on the back and to accept our gratitude for everything you are doing at home to support your children and your school. As teachers, we can wave goodbye to our classes at the end of the day and go about other things. As parents who are dealing with home learning, your ‘pupils’ are with you 24/7!

I know you are worried about gaps in learning. The news brings us daily statistics on how children are falling behind and what it is they are missing out on. So, I would like to share this with you.

  • Your children came back into school in September ready to learn.
  • Your children settled back into the routine of the school day and the expectations of the staff without fuss.
  • Your children made good progress from September to December and will continue that progress.
  • Your children want to learn and are incredibly positive.
  • Your children are a credit to you and themselves. They show amazing resilience and a determination to
  • succeed.
  • Your children will do this again when we come back to school.

I am fully aware that you are dealing with working from home; worrying about those you love and trying to keep sane whilst dealing with the pressures of teaching your children at home. So please take a moment to think about all you are doing and know it’s a great job. Thank you from us. By working with us, you are helping your child to continue their education and to help them feel more confident when school re-opens to everyone (hopefully) later in the term.

Headteacher Praise Conversations for home learners
To assist with this, I would like parents to nominate home learners who are doing really well at home to
receive a video chat to show their learning with myself. We will use Microsoft Teams which parents will need to download prior to the conversation. I will select a number of children at random each week and arrange with the parent for a special conversation with their child so they can show me their work or read to me for a few minutes.

If your child has been working really well at home please email me directly:

Excellent learners within the hub
For those children attending our hub provision, I will be asking staff to allow me to drop-in on learners and hear about those children who are performing well in class so they can also show how they are making great progress.

Keep up the great work everyone and a special thank you to our parent-teachers for doing all they can to
support their child’s education during this challenging time.

Enjoy your weekend,
Mrs Figes
