Learning Support Assistant (Specialist 1 2 1)

Thornhill Primary School has a vacancy for a Teaching Assistant to support a child requiring specialist one to one support for learning alongside their health needs.  15 hours per week, Monday to Friday mornings-term time (39 weeks per year).  Starting Salary of £22,144 pro rata to a term time part time salary of £7,803 per annum.


The role is to support a nursery aged pupil with SMA (type 1) for three hours every day either at Thornhill Primary School or in the family home which is in the local area.


There will be full training in the child’s healthcare needs as part of the role and you will be expected to work as part of a team of carers for this child.


Applicants require:

  • Suitable qualifications (NVQ Level 3)
  • Experience of working with children with special needs/ health needs
  • Experience of working within a nursery or early years setting
  • Understanding of Individual Education Plans and experience of working within these
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Willingness to undertake medical training


Applicants with experiences of working with children with communication needs and/or non- mobile children will be considered even if they do not have a teaching assistant qualification.
