The whole school enjoyed a trip to Manjushri Kadampa Meditation Centre (Buddhist Temple, Ulverston). Manjushri KMC is an internationally renowned centre for meditation and children got to experience two guided meditations while we where there. This involved children sitting comfortably with their legs crossed facing the grand Buddha statue. Pupils became calm and sat very still, even our little ones in reception! This meditation allowed children to peacefully enjoy learning about the temple and the story of Buddha, it also developed students understanding of Buddhism and how Buddhists live to achieve world peace.
Children also got to appreciate the temple's grand exterior as we explored the outside of the temple and its surrounding gardens. Mrs Murray's class drew all the different shapes of the temple and this was later linked to Maths lessons. My class, year 2 and 3, drew an attractive image of the temple. This was used for the picture side of a postcard. They later wrote the postcard in school which included all the really enjoyable bits of the trip. Miss Clark's class explored the surrounding gardens and engaged in speaking and listening activities about the temple and Buddism.
The day was enjoyed by all and children left feeling happy, relaxed and at peace with themselves.
