Assessment and Parental Contributions to Assessment

We work with parents by sharing and receiving information through: our program 2BuildaProfile *, informal and formal parent teacher meetings, termly progress reports, questionnaires and scrap books.  We invite all parents and carers to regular 'Stay and Play' events, trips and 'performances', in order to see their children's play based learning first hand.

We assess children's progress 4 times a year against the age related development statements of Development Matters

We then use this information  and information from parents to plan next steps.  Parents receive a brief report of how their child is progressing, termly, a Progress Check Report when their child is two and another final end of Early Years Report showing whether or not the child has achieved their Early Learning Goals, at the end of the Reception year.

2BuildaProfile* is a programme that allows us to photograph children's learning and share it with parents at the end of each half term.  They in turn can photograph examples from home and email them to us to form part of the record. We print off the information and ask children to comment on the pictures to get the child's view of their learning.

In addition we use observations and written notes to record progress.  Reception children record some work in books.

We suggest activities for Nursery and Reception children (based on children's interests) in our newsletters. All children take books home weekly and Reception children are encouraged to read with a parent at home every week, as often as possible.  Reception children also have a small amount of homework each week
